CEREC

You’ll be amazed at the beautiful smiles our dentists can conjure up with the use of this ground-breaking new technology. CEREC can provide you with long lasting crowns in half the time that previous machines could. This is perfect for those of you who are nervous and who would prefer to spend less time in the dentist’s chair. CEREC expedites the process of creating fabulous restorations and therefore allows for shorter treatment times, which means minimal discomfort and intrusion into your day.
What Is CEREC?
CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. It uses a computer, a camera and a milling instrument, all fused in one special piece of kit. This innovation is what ensures swift overall treatment times. A precise, accurate picture is taken of the damaged tooth. We can then use Computer Aided Design (CAD) technology to construct a tailored restoration and have it in your mouth the very same day. The versatility and success of this treatment means there is no need for a second appointment.
A high strength bonding resin is used to cement the ceramic crowns in place and ensure they are durable and safe. You don’t have to worry about mercury or gold leaking as you would with fillings and caps.

Orthodontics
Orthodontics is about more than just aesthetics. Straight teeth function better and are also easier to care for. So while your goals might be aesthetic, you’ll enjoy the added benefits of having perfectly aligned teeth. With traditional fixed orthodontics, you can enjoy a simple and predictable treatment plan that will leave you smiling with confidence.
How does orthodontic treatment work?
Traditional fixed orthodontics uses brackets and wires to move the teeth into the optimal position. White or metal brackets are bonded to each tooth and then a wire joins them. The wire can be adjusted to gradually move the teeth. Orthodontics can fix gaps, rotations, misaligned bite, underbite, overbite, crossbite and overcrowding.
You will have an option between white brackets with clear wires or traditional metal braces. You may also have the choice between fixed and removable braces, but removable braces are more commonly used for young children who are still growing or still have some of their baby teeth. Braces are suitable for individuals of any age, including children, teens and adults.
Who can have orthodontic treatment?
To be eligible for orthodontic treatment, you need to have generally good oral health and be able to follow care instructions during the treatment. Traditional fixed braces are suitable for treating a wide range of issues, including overcrowding, gaps, bite alignment problems, rotations and prominent teeth. It’s also commonly used to prepare for other treatments such as crowns, bridges or dental implants.
If you have severe overcrowding, we may recommend extractions before you start orthodontic treatment. And if you have issues with your wisdom teeth, we may also recommend having these removed before starting treatment.
How long does orthodontic treatment take?
This all depends on your case. Simple alignment issues could take as little as 12 months to complete, while more complex cases could take up to two years. Metal braces tend to have shorter treatment times than white braces, which is why many people opt for this choice.
With fixed braces, you’ll need to make time to visit the dentist for adjustments every 6-10 weeks. It’s vital to consider this when choosing your treatment plan.

Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening is one of the most effective ways to change the colour of your teeth. Our teeth absorb stains from food, drink, and other lifestyle choices such as smoking. These deep-set stains cannot be removed by brushing alone, only teeth whitening can restore their whiteness.
Dentist-supervised teeth whitening is the best way to achieve whiter teeth without damaging the enamel. Damage to the enamel can lead to increased sensitivity, damage to the gums and uneven whitening. We recommend putting teeth whitening in the hands of the experts to achieve incredible results.
How does tooth whitening work?
Once you’ve both made the decision to go ahead, you’ll then be fitted for a custom-made gum tray. Whitening gel is placed in this tray, which you wear for a few hours at a time at home. Your tooth-whitening treatment can be customised to give you the degree of whitening that you desire (this is dependent on the degree of staining). So that everyone can benefit from this very effective cosmetic treatment, we offer a range of competitive pricing and finance options.

Crowns
Crowns are often known as caps and this description gives a good indication of what they look like and how they work – crowns fit on top of a tooth, giving it back its strength, shape and function. Crowns are made from a variety of materials and can provide a very effective cosmetic treatment.
What are your options with crowns?
Crowns are used to treat teeth that have been affected by decay or which are misshapen. They can also be used to cover a large or discoloured filling and to protect a root filling. When you come to Fergus and Glover, your dentist will assess the condition of your teeth and decide if a crown is the best treatment option for you. He or she will then discuss the different types of caps available and the pros and cons of each. For example, metal crowns can provide a very strong solution for back teeth, while porcelain or ceramic crowns can provide a durable, natural look.
When your crown is put in place you will be given a local anaesthetic, your tooth will be prepared and a mould will be taken to create the crown. You should feel the same level of discomfort that you experience with a filling. Crowns are long lasting, but must be looked after using good oral hygiene and regular check-ups.
Bridges
A dental bridge is a kind of restorative and cosmetic dental treatment. It is commonly used to replace a missing tooth or multiple missing teeth following an extraction. With a dental bridge, the surrounding teeth are used to support a prosthetic tooth. One or two dental crowns are attached to a prosthetic tooth that sits in the gap.
How do dental bridges work?
A dental bridge is a quick and simple way to replace a missing tooth or missing teeth. A gap in your teeth can do more than just damage your confidence. It can also lead the surrounding teeth to fall out of alignment, resulting in problems with your bite. A dental bridge will help to fill this gap before it can become problematic.
We have the unique advantage of having all dental restorations created on-site. This means that the dental technician responsible for making your bridge can be present during your consultation. This ensures that you’ll be able to make special requests about the tooth shape or shade preferences. The process of fitting the bridge is also much easier when the bridge is made on-site.
Frequently Asked Questions
What Kind Of People Have Cosmetic Dental Treatments?
Cosmetic dentistry is no longer the preserve of models and film stars. With new minimally invasive techniques and painless treatments, cosmetic dentistry is now readily accessible for almost anyone who is unhappy with the appearance of their teeth.
Will It Be Obvious I Have Had Treatment?
This depends on how radical the changes are but usually people who know you well will notice the improvement to your smile. Others will notice how good you now look but often find it hard to tell why. And those who have never met you before will just think you have a great smile!
How Much Can Be Done?
Smile Rejuvenation
If your smile has faded or darkened and your teeth have areas that are a little chipped or worn then smile rejuvenation may be the treatment of choice. This combination of tooth whitening and cosmetic contouring will revitalise your smile in only one or two appointments.
If your teeth are not suitable for whitening or if you want to achieve an even whiter appearance you may consider porcelain veneers, which can improve other cosmetic problems as well.
Even if there has been significant tooth surface loss, resulting in a reduction in lower face height and multiple missing teeth it is still possible to rebuild the entire dentition and re-establish function and appearance.
Instant Orthodontics
Many adults prefer not to wear braces for 1-3 years choosing instant orthodontics instead. Custom-made porcelain veneers or crowns are used to straighten crowded teeth, reduce protrusion or close gaps,. This concept has been developed to new levels in recent years, making surprisingly radical and natural-looking changes possible.
Tooth Replacement
Implants and new aesthetic bridge techniques ensure that even if you have missing teeth there are still ideal aesthetic treatments available to restore your smile.
Full Mouth Reconstruction
Even if there has been significant tooth surface loss, resulting in a reduction in lower face height and multiple missing teeth it is still possible to rebuild the entire dentition and re-establish function and appearance.
Is It Expensive?
This varies depending on the services provided and the number of teeth treated. The costs reflect the value of the time taken and the skill of the dentist as well as the equipment and materials used. Fergus & Glover are totally committed to quality, using some of the latest technology and the finest ceramic technicians.
Fergus & Glover’s many satisfied customers are testament to the value of their investment, in many cases enhancing quality of life by improving self-image and self-confidence.
Fees are discussed openly and clients are given a treatment plan with a full breakdown at the consultation.
Will The Treatment Hurt?
We endeavour to make the whole experience as relaxed and stress free as possible. Modern techniques mean that even if you do require a local anaesthetic, this can be undertaken with the minimum discomfort.
Do I Have To Take Special Care Or Change Eating Habits After Treatment?
Porcelain veneers and crowns don’t stain and are designed to take as much wear as your natural teeth. But you should never use your teeth as tools – such as cracking nuts or opening bottles. Clients should follow a normal oral hygiene routine to maximise longevity of their own teeth and any new restorations alike.
How Many Appointments Do I Need?
This depends on what treatment is required after the initial consultation. As a guide however, major smile improvements, including porcelain veneers, can usually be completed in a matter of weeks with only two or three appointments.
How Long Will My New Smile Last?
The longevity of your new smile is directly related to how well you look after it. An after-care programme will be recommended to promote the health of your teeth and gums. As guidance, in the case of veneers or crowns we would expect them to last at least 15 years. We advise that whitening treatments should be repeated every 2-3 years.
